I exist…

I went over to my new apartment this afternoon to fill out the paperwork. They suggested that I “come at least an hour before we close”, and now I know why…

My lease is 32 pages long… wow.

Anyways, my new contact information is:

Frankie Manning leading the Shim Sham

I’m back from spending the weekend in Oakland at the Frankie Manning weekend. Photos are up on my Flickr page.

I have to admit that I skipped a few of the classes in order to go back to my hotel and sleep; I’m so out of shape. Contrast this to Frankie in the photo above, leading the dance at age 94. I suck. :)

There must be a law…

I’m in Oakland right now, waiting for a plate of nachos at the Pacific Coast Brewing Company.

I came to Oakland for the Frankie Manning dance weekend; because I’m a lazy bum, I decided to get a hotel here, rather than drive two hours back and forth to Sunnyvale every day.

And, as usual, traffic on the 880 was stop and go all the way to Oakland. Just like it is every time I drive to Oakland. I am all but convinced that there’s a law here that says “driving on 880 must be as painful as possible.”

Oh, and the nachos were wierd – 40 pounds of beans and black olives on deep-fried corn flour. I guess at least it was semi nutritious.

Nothing says “romance” like a new motherboard…

As usual, Fry’s Electronics has a couple of full-page spreads in today’s San Jose Mercury News newspaper.

In keeping with the time of year, the ads are titled “Valentine’s gift ideas.” The ads show big-screen TVs, digital cameras, washing machines, and motherboards…

Yes, motherboards. Because nothing says “romance” like a new motherboard.

If this isn’t enough of a problem, they’re not even good motherboards! Visualize with me for a second…

A couple is sitting together on a love seat. The lights are low, candles are burning, and romantic music is playing.

He: Happy valentine’s day, dear! I got you a present.

She: (Unwraps present) It’s a…. motherboard…

She: What, was the flower store out of roses? And it’s not even a good motherboard! Just look at that shoddy chipset! You couldn’t even get me something with a 1333 frontside bus?

It’s wierd being a manager…

Today, for the first time in my life, I approved someone’s expense report.

I have to say, it feels weird to get a view into someone’s life through expenses… So and so likes this kind of food; So and so must be friends with such and such since they went to dinner together… So and so lives here or there based on taxi receipts…

I expect this will pass, but right now, I feel like a spy. A spy who just paid someone $4,000 for expenses.
